Sweep puts Dodgers in First
The Dodgers completed the sweep of the Braves Sunday, moving them a game ahead of Boston in the National League pennant race. The week began with the All-Star Game. The Dodgers were represented in the game by pitchers Nick Strincevich and Hugh Casey, as well as Augie Galan, Pee Wee Reese, Pete Reiser, and Carl Furillo. The American League won the game 13-3.
Following the break was the battle between the top two NL teams. Nick Strincevich got the second half started right by tossing a 6-hit shutout. Pee Wee Reese reached base all 5 times as the Dodgers won the opener 8-0. Hal Gregg pitched 8 strong innings to lead Brooklyn to the 5-2 win Saturday. Johnny Hopp had 4 hits and 5 RBI's Sunday to complete the sweep. The Dodgers outscored Boston 23-7 in the 3 games.
